| For Fathers, Receiving Is Not That
Easy
Chicago, IL - April 18, 2007 - It
looks like dear old dad is a bit pickier with gifts than he
appears. According to a recent survey* from ShopLocal, the
leader in multi-channel shopping services, fathers are harder
to please than mothers when it comes to receiving presents.
While nearly 67 percent of respondents believed that their
fathers were generally pleased with the gifts they received
on Father’s Day, an overwhelming 53 percent of dads
stated that they had never gotten a good gift.
Luckily for children everywhere, mom seems to be a lot easier
to satisfy. Of the more than 3,600 Americans who responded
to the online poll, only 18 percent of mothers felt that the
quality of gifts received for Mother’s Day left something
to be desired; nearly 60 percent responded that they always
loved what they received.
Other stats from the survey revealed that nearly twice as
many people find that shopping for Father’s Day is more
difficult than shopping for Mother’s Day, which might
explain why consumers spend more money on mom, with $11.4
billion in purchases, than on dad, with only $8.6 billion
in purchases. Just over 10 percent of respondents confessed
to being last-minute shoppers for both parents during this
holiday shopping period.
According to ShopLocal shopping expert and blogger Eva Yusa,
known as “Eva the Shopping Diva,” there are ways
to hit the nail on the head when it comes to presenting dad
with a great Father’s Day gift. “Most people find
that dads are a lot more finicky and less inclined to tell
someone what they want, which could explain why more money
is spent shopping for Mother’s Day than for Father’s
Day,” said Eva. “You can relieve some of the pressure
of finding just the right gift by starting early. Last-minute
shopping rarely results in perfect presents.”
